Parsing and reverse engineering

The numbers are on the screen, there is no export button, and somebody retypes them by hand.

Price the parser in a minute

A floor, not a quote. The binding figure is fixed after we scope the task, and that scoping is free.

Two more signs this is you

The supplier sends the price list as a PDF, laid out differently every time, and somebody keys it in.

Somebody else has already turned this down, because the source has no API.

Here is what we build first

The first version is deliberately small, and complete enough to run on real data.

  • One source, one schedule
  • Structured output
  • Survives a layout change
  • Tells you when it breaks

The expensive part is rarely obvious

Everything turns on whether the source wants to be read. An open page with stable markup is cheap. A login, a rate limit and a bot check are a different job. Second factor: how often the source changes. That decides whether you are buying a script or a thing somebody has to keep alive, and it is better said before the start than discovered together in month two. Third: how the result gets checked. No number at all beats a number that quietly drifted, so validation goes into the first version. Volume and schedule come last and barely move the figure.

We have built this, and it still runs

These bills do not come from us

The provider invoices you directly. There is no margin on top, because that money never passes through us.

We do not resell capacity, so we earn nothing when your bill grows.

You can leave here with a figure

The page you are on answers the first question. Four left, and you see the figure without telling us anything.
